CURRICULUM & PROGRAMS

Eureka Math/Eureka Math²

P.S. 65 provides students in grades K–2 with Eureka Math² and students in grades 3–5 with Eureka Math. Both programs are designed to advance equity in the mathematics classroom by helping students build enduring knowledge and confidence as mathematicians. The curriculum emphasizes a balance of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application, ensuring that students develop strong foundations while also learning to think flexibly and strategically about problem solving. Through carefully sequenced lessons, hands-on learning, and multiple access points, Eureka fosters deep mathematical thinking and prepares students to transfer their skills across real-world contexts.

FUNdations

FUNdations provides targeted support in foundational reading skills, ensuring that early readers build the essential tools needed to access grade-level texts with confidence. FUNdations is a multisensory, structured language program for grades K–2 that provides systematic and explicit instruction in critical foundational skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, high-frequency word study, reading fluency, vocabulary, comprehension strategies, handwriting, and spelling. Research-based and engaging, Fundations lays the groundwork for a lifetime of literacy.

ELA | Wit & Wisdom

P.S. 65 uses Wit & Wisdom as its core ELA curriculum in grades K–5. The program builds knowledge through rich texts in literature, history, science, and the arts, while integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Wit & Wisdom supports vocabulary growth, critical thinking, and equitable access to rigorous learning. This curriculum supports our priority of strengthening Tier 1 instruction and providing all students with high-quality, meaningful learning.

SS - Passport to SS

The Passport to Social Studies curriculum, developed by the NYC Department of Education, guides instruction in grades K–5. Through inquiry-based lessons, students explore history, geography, economics, and civics while building critical thinking and discussion skills. Passport encourages curiosity, questioning, and connections between the past and present. Aligned to our priorities, the curriculum provides equitable, knowledge-rich instruction that deepens students’ understanding of the world and their place in it.

Science - Amplify

Amplify Science is the core science curriculum for grades K–5. Rooted in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Amplify blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to engage students as scientists and engineers. Students learn to ask questions, design solutions, and use evidence to explain real-world phenomena.

Art

Our Art program nurtures creativity and self-expression while introducing students to a variety of media and techniques. Students explore art history and cultural connections as they develop skills in visual problem-solving and design.

music

The Music program engages students in singing, rhythm, and instrumental practice while building listening and performance skills. Through exposure to diverse genres and traditions, students gain an appreciation for music as both an art form and a means of expression.

Physical Education

Physical Education promotes health, teamwork, and lifelong fitness habits. Students participate in activities that build coordination, endurance, and sportsmanship while developing an understanding of the importance of physical well-being. In addition to games and team sports, students participate in the NYC Fitnessgram assessments, which encourage students to track progress and set goals for a healthy lifestyle.

Technology

The Technology program at P.S. 65 prepares students to be innovative problem solvers and responsible digital citizens. Through hands-on experiences with digital tools and emerging technologies including AI, students build critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. Grounded in the NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, the curriculum emphasizes digital citizenship, equity, and real-world applications, ensuring every student develops the confidence and fluency to thrive in a technology-driven world.

NYC Fitnessgram

NYC FITNESSGRAM is an annual fitness assessment for students in grades kindergarten-twelve that helps students and their families develop personal goals for lifelong fitness. Students complete the assessments in Physical Education class. NYC FITNESSGRAM is not a graded test, and the results are confidential.

You can view your child’s NYC FITNESSGRAM results and more information about NYC FITNESSGRAM on your NYC Schools Account.

You can also ask your child’s PE teacher to print out your child’s report. PE teachers can help you understand:

  • How the test was administered
  • What the results mean
  • How your student can make a personal plan for staying healthy and fit

You may also want to share your child’s NYC FITNESSGRAM report with your health care provider. The NYC FITNESSGRAM reports can help start conversations about eating habits and levels of physical activity needed for good health.

What is on the NYC FITNESSGRAM assessment?

  • Grades K-3: Students are measured for height and weight only.
  • Grades 4-12: Students are measured for height and weight, and complete five fitness activities that assess strength, endurance, flexibility, and aerobic capacity.
